BBQ and Baseball

Last weekend I visited family in Kansas City and stopped by Kauffman Stadium. It is one of my favorite stadiums to visit (besides for the obvious reason of being a Royals fan), because is great for all ages. Here’s why:

There isn’t a bad seat in the place

The stadium seats around 38,000 people. Much smaller than stadiums like Coors Field (Denver, CO), Yankee Stadium (New York, NY) and Dodger Stadium (Los Angeles, LA), which all have above 50,000 seats. I have sat in many different areas within the K, from the Hy-Vee seats way up top, to behind the dugout, to the fountain seats in the outfield, they all have a great view of the game. The fountain seats are great during summer day games because of the mist that comes off the fountains.

The price

Ticket prices for games is not outrageous. It’s more affordable to go and watch the game. Seats behind the dugout at field level are face value $80+, upper deck are $20+, etc. You can even stop by a Price Chopper and get $10 tickets. Whereas, at Fenway Park in Boston (which has around the same amount of seats as the K) prices are $111+ behind the dugout, and $24+ for the outfield grandstand. In general, Kauffman stadium is a more affordable place to attend a ballgame, especially for families.

Family-Friendly

There is so much to do there for kids and families. They make the experience at the K a family affair. Behind the outfield there is the “outfield experience” that has a full little league baseball diamond, mini-golf, etc. Plus every Friday night in the summer at the K there are fireworks after the game.

Food and Drink

There are tons of choices of to eat from, most importantly the BBQ. In my very biased opinion, Kansas City has the best BBQ and Kauffman embraces that with a wide selection. I recommend the Pork Patty Melt, a funnel cake with BBQ pulled pork, cheese, cole slaw, fried onions and jalapeno poppers (section 206). To top it off, you can wash it down with Kansas City’s local selection of beers by Boulevard Beer–ranging from wheat ale, pilsner, etc. (I recommending stopping by the Craft and Draft for a drink).

All in all, Kauffman Stadium is a great experience for the entire family and for adults to attend a game and cheer on the Royals.

**If you have time on your way home from the park, stop at LC’s Bar-B-Q (5800 Blue Pkwy), you won’t be disappointed.
